The Ottawa office of Richardson GMP supported Sole Responsibility this year and not only collected shoes, but also volunteered their time at the event. Sole Responsibility is a non-profit organization formed by a group of runners in Ottawa who collect and donate gently used running and walking shoes overseas. Each spring they collect shoes at Ottawa running events. They also have drop-off sites throughout the city. After consulting with the United Nations to determine the area of greatest need, they were asked to send the donated shoes to Cameroon in Africa this year (2009). Since starting in 2005, collections have gone to Chad, Rwanda and Lesotho.
